About

The monument, located in front of Çeşme Castle, was erected in memory of those who fell in the battle between the Ottoman and Russian navies off the coast of Çeşme on July 5-7, 1770. The inscription on the Martyrs' Memorial reads, "Heroic Martyrs of the Çeşme Naval Battle, 1770."

The monument, which was displayed in Çeşme in the 1950s, was sent to the Beşiktaş Naval Museum in Istanbul by the Southern Naval Area Command in 1972. However, it was later determined that the monument, in its current location, did not fully reflect its spiritual value, and the monument was returned to Çeşme on March 29, 2012. Currently, it is located in the parking lot in front of the caste in Çeşme.
