Ödemiş First Bullet Monument

Located in the village of Hacı İlyas, in the Ödemiş district of İzmir province, this monument commemorates the first bullet fired by resistance fighters during the Greek occupation. The monument consists of a four-part, round column atop a rectangular base of white marble, widening from bottom to top. The inscription on the monument reads, "The first bullet was fired at the enemy from here on June 1, 1919." A ceremony is held annually in Hacı İlyas Village on the last Sunday of May to commemorate the martyrs who fired the first bullet.
