Menemen Court Mosque Martyrs' Cemetery
About
The small grave, located in the garden of the Mahkeme Mosque in the Menemen district of Izmir, belongs to Cemal from Izmir and Ahmet Çavuş from Yozgat, who were martyred during the liberation of Menemen. The inscription on the gravestone reads, "On the day of the liberation of Menemen, 14th SUV. FIR. Headquarters ENG. BL. CO. MUNICIPALITY. Cemal from Izmir and Ahmet Çavuş from Yozgat were martyred here. September 9, 1922."
It is known as the Court Mosque among the public because it is the mosque where the people who beheaded Martyr Second Lieutenant Kubilay and revolted in the Menemen incident were tried.
