Kubilay Monument
About
It was built in 1934 in memory of our revolutionary martyrs, Second Lieutenant Kubilay, and Guard Şevki and Hasan Bey. It was created by sculptor Ratip Aşir Acudoğu in memory of Mustafa Fehmi Kubilay, who lost his life during the Menemen Incident of 1930. The monument is situated on the highest hill within the Kubilay Barracks, surrounded by pine trees. The statue of the young man, looking towards the horizon with a spear in hand, represents Turkish youth. Beneath the statue is a section of Atatürk's Address to the Youth. In the background, three columns rise side by side: the one on the left represents Guard Şevki, the one in the middle represents Second Lieutenant Kubilay, and the one on the right represents Guard Hasan. The inscription on the back of the monument reads, "They believed, they fought, they died. We are the guardians of the legacy they left behind."
