In the Menteş region, located on ATAT land belonging to the Military Academy, lie the graves of three Turkish soldiers and one German officer who were martyred during the Izmir Defense. These graves are located on the left side of the road leading to Kırgız Hill in Menteş. The original headstones at the top of three graves were damaged, replaced in later years, and these gravestones bore no names other than a crescent. Because of the crescent, these graves were believed to be the graves of fallen Turkish soldiers. One gravestone lacked a crescent and was oriented similarly to Christian graves, suggesting it belonged to a German officer.
